I was wondering how to go about understanding what areas of the Mac need to be cloned, to move a Yosemite installation to another computer that has personal files that you don't want deleted and written over? I am used to this on Windows with Microsoft PE. Basically when used correctly it gives a way to restore the Windows systems files and not touch the personal data. I know asking for the same thing on a Mac might be asking a lot, but I want to be pointed in the correct direction to learn ways things like this are done on a Mac. Thanks of any help.

Not really asking a lot, just use Carbon Copy Cloner and set it to exclude those folders/files you don't want to overwrite...
