I have four external drives that I use to make sequential bootable clones and for Time Machine. I'm going to be replacing my computer in a month with a new one. Is there a way to migrate my data to the new machine in such a way that I can plug in these drives, and they'll take it in stride? Or do I essentially have to start from scratch with my backups?

When you start the new Mac tell it you want to import your data then use the TM backup as the source for that. That will get you up and running with everything like it was. Then attach the old TM disk(s) to the new Mac and you will be asked if you want to start a new backup or keep using the old one by "inheriting" it. Pick inherit and off you go.
