clone to backup image osx 10.6.8

I want to create hd image of iMac OSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) to external usb device as backup to use in 2 modes:

1. internal hard disk fault:to restore image to new installedhard disk
2. to boot iMac from external disk

Carbon Copy Cloner 3.5 makes both things?!


I know Snow Leopard has no recovery partitions, so what tools can I use to restore CCC image to a new disk when I boot if internal disk has been replaced to new one?

Yes.

You would boot from the external disk, and then use CCC to copy the external drive to the new internal one.

It’s possible to boot from external drive by windows keyboard ?

It should be. Hold down the Alt key when turning the computer on, and wait until it shows the available hard drives on the screen. Choose the external one.
