My Macbook Pro is just 3 weeks old and the left shift keys keep flipping up, even when i click it back down. The shop have said i can exchange it for another thankfully.

However, is it possible for me to clone an image from the broken macbook pro and install it on the identical spec new macbook pro?

Will it work or will the fact that its a physically different machine make it impossible?

Thanks
Al

It will probably work, but why not use a time machine backup to transfer your applications, settings etc. without overwriting the pre installed OS on the new machine? Would be faster and easier to do.

Thanks for the replies.

Im not using time machine as I have everything on a new internal SSd drive which I will simply swap over to the new macbook pro. Just wanted to make sure it will work.

Thanks again
Al

TM really isn't faster than spending 10 to 20 minutes swapping HDDs and SSDs in Unibody MBPs.
With TM you have to backup first, which may take an hour or ten.
Then you have to restore from it, which may take an hour to twenty or even more.
Even cloning is faster than TM.
