I haven't bought the drive yet but just asking ahead of time, I plan to buy a new 1TB hard drive to install inside my Mac mini, but first I want to exactly clone the entire Mac mini drive to it via USB including the recovery partition. I can't seem to find clear answers on how to do this exactly. Any pointers greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Carbon Copy will handle the Recovery partition for you.
When you give CCC a source location, it will prompt you about the Recovery partition.
