iPod CLOSED: iTunes 8.2 freezing when plugging in iPod touch

I have just downloaded ituenes 8.2 to my macbook, and iTunes works fine, but as soon as I plug in my iPod touch, iTunes music stops playing and i get the coloured wheel and it spins forever and does not see my ipod in the side bar.

When i unplug my ipod it unfreezes and works fine again.

Any suggestions?

Could you explain the solution so that others can use it when experiencing the same issue?

Well i tried restarting both ipod and macbook but still neither fixed it. So basicly I just left it plugged into itunes with the colour wheel spinning for about an hour and then it came good and started to sync.
But the strange thing was when it started to work, itunes started playing a movie at full screen, so not sure if that had something to do with it
