I recently lost my original, awesome, Apple MagSafe Battery pack and then found it again, so all good.

But it got me thinking of what viable alternative might be out there because I have the Anker 621, which is close in size, but becomes a nuclear blast furnace, hot enough where I can no longer keep the phone charging in my pocket.

The Anker nano runs cooler than the 621. Although my 621 gets pretty warm it’s never too hot to pocket or handle. It’s just too slow and I rarely use it anymore.

One way to think about it is to look at why Apple got rid of it in the first place.

The 12 Pro Max, which was current when the MagSafe battery pack was announced, is rated for 20 hours of video playback.

The 17 Pro Max is rated for 33 hours of video playback.

It's just one metric, but you can see how the need for this thing in the first place has been replaced by the actual battery life of the modern phones.

I totally agree with you. During a normal day there is currently no need for a battery pack. But there are situations when the extra battery would be nice to have. I for example take my original MagSafe battery pack on every vacation with me and I’m glad that I did this a few days ago with my new 17pm. Without it I wouldn’t be able to get through a day. So I think Apple should provide a first party battery pack for every iPhone.

The new MagSafe Battery pack for the Air will work on the 17 models. All you need to do is turn the pack side ways and it will charge.

The Anker Ultra-Slim Powerbank will also work.

And so will this Anker model.

I want a dedicated battery pack, not a weird solution like this. It won’t stick on the back of the phone when I turn it side ways
