closing apps on 3.0 2g iphone issue

I notice after upgrading to 3.0 that when im in an app, and press home button to get out, it just jumps to the home screen as if the app quit. its not smooth at all in the way it quits.
most of the apps are doing that and then the sluggishness starts.
anyone having the same issue?
i dont want to do a restore and go the new iphone route

im just doing a brand new restore and see if that works
