Where I am
If I connect an MBA 2015, via HDMI to a monitor and close the lid, will the MBA go to 'sleep mode'?
Considering a few options, and one of them was to get an adapter to connect my MBA to my Samsung monitor.

Thanks all

Unless you have an external display, keyboard, and mouse attached then yes, it will. Otherwise it will go into clamshell mode.

Hmm, rather disappointing. My idea was to use a Logitech Keys keyboard and an MX Master mouse. Thus, switching from my Windows computer to the MBA, as needed. The MBA would have an HDMI cable from my Samsung to it.

Still mentally thinking about this. I am also rather close to purchasing a Mac Mini. But, read countless issues with Bluetooth connections. So, still thinking...

Is the question that you want it to sleep or not to sleep?

There is and app called “No Sleep” and you can toggle whether or not you want the MBA to sleep when you shut the lid or not.

Thanks. To have it NOT go to sleep when I close the lid, if connected to a monitor...

Update:
I just purchased a Logitech Keys keyboard, and a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter.
Connected both to my MBA 2015, and I can close the lid, and use the laptop normally (connected to my Samsung monitor). No app install or anything :)

PS: The adapter is the Microsoft one, the one normally used for the Surface. Not sure if that is why the MBA works with the lid shut (active vs inactive adapters).
You know, I should reboot the MBA, to see if this remains as is.

Now for some cable management, since the HDMI port is on the bloody opposite side of the power connector :(

In my experience, I have an OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock connected, and when I close my lid, as long as the power adapter is connected to the Air, it goes into clamshell mode and I can use monitor-mouse-keyboard just fine, and it will shut monitor off after a while probably with whatever time I have set if I don't use it. If I unplug the power cable from Air when lid is shut, it immediately shuts off the monitor etc and goes to sleep. I have to open the lid to get it back. That's why I usually leave it plugged in when I'm in the office using it.
