Hey guys,

I have been reading up about Microsoft's new Cloud, which will somewhat rival Google's system that they have going.

For those unaware of them, it is my understanding that Cloud/Google's system lets you store an application (mainly java or something trivial) on their servers, and run the application on a computer via its Internet Browser. (is that correct?).

So, I got to thinking... What is the likely-hood of this very thing happening on our local networks??

I would LOVE for my Adium accounts, safari bookmarks/preferences/passwords, activity monitor CPU location, widgets etcetc to all appear in the same format on my iMac as they do on my perfectly laid-out MBP (I am somewhat fussy about it, and since my parents use the iMac it is always moving). I guess it would be like playing a game or movie over the network, it uses the preferences & everything else from the "host" computer, but the RAM, CPU usage from the client computer.

The programs could be put in the Dock, or aliased to the desktop. As long as you have the credentials to access the host computer you could simply double click it and away the application goes!

Advantages of this could be what i explained above, it makes things much easier to access and more universally presentable. I really like the idea of having everything on one computer, accessible to any other computer that I go on in exactly the same manor as on the original computer.

Disadvantages of this would be resources-wise and compatibility-wise. "Streaming" applications over a wireless network would be painfully slow, gigabit would be fine i guess. Compatibility-wise I am thinking that the application could only be run on systems that it was made for, e.g. Appleworks; it could be hosted from a PPC but that doesn't mean that my MBP without Rosetta could run it..

Anyways, just a thought.. :)

EDIT: noone seems to like my idea lol, ahwell. i added a few things, they are in italics.
