I have to Macs (Ventura) and a specific project folder (150GB) that I need to be updated on both Macs. I have previously used Dropbox to sync it (I need all files local, not only on cloud) but now I'm running out of space on one of the computers so I have moved the folder to an external drive. But since Dropbox no longer syncs external drives I've run in to trouble.

Is there a easy way to solve this? I pay for iCloud and Dropbox, I could add Google Drive if it is the best way. Also have a QNAP NAS on my LAN if that can help?

Sync needs to able to work remotely (Not only on LAN) and preferably automatically (and during powernap?).

Resilio is by far the fastest syncing tool you will ever find and allows you to sync to any location in the system, but it's peer to peer only, without a centralized server so you cannot for example share files and folders with just a link, unless the recipient also uses Resilio.

I was using Resilio before because of the incredible speed, but I needed to be able to easily share stuff with others on a regular basis so I switched to a managed Nextcloud instance by Hetzner, called "Storage Share". I pay only 5 euros per month for 1 TB of storage and unlimited users (you read that right) and you can sync to whichever location you want.

So if you are looking for something similar to Dropbox but more flexible, try Nextcloud. Besides syncing it can do a lot of stuff.
