I have to say this forum is a really bad influence on those of us trying to keep our old computer collection to a minimum!

Again I was browsing Ebay and stumbled across a G5 Quad for $80.00 including shipping. Again I say what the heck and press the BIN button. I don't really need a quad but it's the top end G5 system made by Apple. So what the...heck!

It's missing the graphics adapter, hard disk, and power cord but comes with 8GB of RAM. System was tested as operational and ready for use when missing parts are added. Time to start looking for the missing pieces. Hard drive is easy (I even have spare mounting screws for the G5), probably go with the stock graphics adapter (this will not be used for anything that requires high end graphics so I'll want to keep it low power / noise). Off to find a power cord...probably end up being the most expensive part of the purchase.

What is the name for the plug type used on this Power Mac?

They are called C19. They are sold as 15amp leads here in Australia so I had to chop off the male plug end and replace it with a regular 10amp head. Which is easy enough to do with the right parts if you have trouble getting one with the correct wall plug end.

Thank you. I was able to find one. It's on the way and should be here about the same time as the system itself.

Can the owners of 2 Dual G4 join the Quad club? It is going to be more elitist than 17 " club.

Strap them together with some gaffer tape, run a short Gigabit/cat6 cable between them, configure Xgrid or Pooch for cluster/parallel processing and you've got yourself a box with Quad cores ;)
