cMP 2009 problems upgrading to 10.14

I have the following
2009 cMP

nVidia GTX 680 Mac Edition

W3670 3.2 CPU
Boot ROM 140.0.0.0.0
SMC 1.39f5

I'm unable to upgrade to 10.14
I can download and initiate the installer, then the system reboots and the display goes blank.
If I power up the computer I get the post, Apple logo and progress bar gets "stuck" right away.

Any ideas?

Make clean install of 10.13 and run the installer again.
