Hej!

I have an upgraded Mac Pro 5,1 with an ASUS Bluetooth 4.0 dongle, which seems to be working very nicely.
Internal bluetooth is disconnected.

Now I only have two problems left with BT on my Apple magic keyboard (the newest, long one).

1) In OS X, when restarting, I have to plug it in once, before OS X recognizes it. Even on the login screen, it then works. Not a biggy, but mehh...

The biggy:
2) In Bootcamp Windows (10 64bit edu) I can't connect it via BT at all...
It works when plugged in and it's listed in the device manager as "Mattisse's keyboard" - under Bluetooth...
In the BT device manager it is also listed as "Mattisse's keyboard", both when plugged in or not - but not as connected. Here, there's another "Magic Keyboard with Numeric Pad" entry... only when plugged in.

It works wirelessly in OS X (except for the described hickup) and on another Mac and it's charged.
BT works fine with 2 controllers, a smartphone & a headset (though really only as headphones due to HFP, but that's another story...).

What I did so far:

- I keep turning it & the computer off and on again between steps
- I tried turning it off and on prior/while searching for devices to activate pairing
- I checked driver updates for the devices, Windows & Bootcamp

I googled (ecosia'd) a lot and found a few threads, mostly about pairing issues with older apple keyboard models, "hacked" Bootcamp 6 versions (mine is 6.1) and some others...

Would you have any ideas about this? I guess I can't figure it out on my own...

Thanks in advance & best wishes,
Mattisse

My setup:
Mac Pro 5,1 2010
12*3,5Ghz Intel Xeon X5690
128 GB RAM
Radeon RX 580
Sonnet Allegro USB-C PCIe card
ASUS BT 4.0 dongle
OSX on SSD
Windows on HDD for now

Even with an upgraded, real Mac WiFi and Bluetooth card...
The only way I could get a 4.2 upgraded blue tooth to even turn on the 5,1, with legacy windows 10, was with a fresh download from apple servers of bootcamp 6.. winrar contents run dpisnt, and then apple updated the driver, it tuned on Bluetooth...I messed with this for a week, in windows...just got it working today...I am stubborn!
Hoping it’s solid??? So far so good.

Spent about half a day getting Apple Watch unlock to work on Mojave and high Serra.
Hand off , continuity, worked right off the bat in OS X.
Believe the card is out of iMac 2017-2019???

Apple has Bluetooth on the old 5,1 locked up pretty good. Broadcom has no drivers available anymore. None!
With windows 10 , What a hassle.
I am sure it works real slick, if ya have a new Mac?
Sucks if ya don’t.

It’s all good now though.

Would not know where to start with an aftermarket Bluetooth.
Even with an real Apple Card , it was very tricky.

Kinda need all three operating systems to work...they all have spots in my workflow.

Not sure if the Apple blue tooth 4.0 card is any easier dealing with.

I wish you luck with this...
