If it can't be removed then there must be a way to override the drawrect in NSWindow class.

The NSWindow class has a "hasShadow" property, which is a Bool value.
have you tried setting this value to false ?

Not sure if you can reset set this property on a modal sheet window.

if your window is loaded from a xib file, the "hasShadow" property can also be set from within interface builder.
