Hi everyone, I'm new here and I hope I am posting in the right section. I recently bought COD4, the Mac version, as I heard it's a good game and it should run smoothly on my MacBook Pro (2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, GeForce 8600M GT 512MB).

Unfortunately the game does not run that well at all, I suppose I need to change the graphic settings in order to obtain a better performance. The ones the game suggests are ridiculous though (800x600, low details, etc..) so I am wondering if any of you have any advice that can help me set the best ones for my laptop. I understand that a good FPS rate is also important for the game, at the moment I seem to get a variable rate that goes from 10FPS up till 140, but unfortunately in many parts the game gets quite slow and confusing.

Thanks in advance to whoever can help me. I looked for previous topics regarding settings for COD4 but most people seem to run the game on BootCamp and I don't know if that makes any difference.

Try turning anti-aliasing off and then putting up the resolution. I'm running CoD 4 under Windows on my MBP, and it's coping fine with higher settings then the game suggests. Have a play with the different settings and try and find the right balance between quality and speed.

The weird thing is that even at 800x600, anti-aliasing and everything else off, the game still slows down a little bit when there's a lot on screen.
I can't really see anything at 800x600 though.

Slows down so that you'd spot it without a FPS counter on? I'm sure mine doesn't have such a high rate of FPS when more comes on screen, but it's not really noticeable.

reply...

- turn on smooth mouse (this helps a lot)
- run single player mode at 1280 x 800 (multiplayer plays well at native resolution)
- turn off shadows

Thank you both! It runs a lot better now with the "smooth mouse" option activated! It's probably not as good as a console version, or played on a powerful pc, but it's decent anyway! :)

hey

hey i just thought i let everyone know i tested cod4 on a new mac pro 17 with all the graphics at max except anti aliasing off beause i dont understand wat it is and it makes the game run chopy on ever low graphic setings but other than that it looked the closesed iv seen to the ps3 graphics althou not quit as good a little less smooth and theres no suround sound on laptops but i couldent have bin happier the framerate didnt slow the hole time i played wich was about half the single player it was almost like having an xbox 360 or a ps3 with u on the go and the controles with the trackpad are pretty good i was personaly surprised because i much prefer having an actual controler but i learned these new controles in a day or two anyway i hope this helpes anybody if this might be a question they had befor they bout themselves on of those new unibody macbook pros peace
