Codec Unavailable error. Unable to play videos in Powerpoint

Not able to play video (MP4 file) in PowerPoint 2011 (V 14.7.0) for MAX OS (10.11.6). I get an error saying “Codec” unavailable. This is the case with all ppt files with the video.
