Unfortunately, one of my relatives spilled coffee on their unibody MacBook Pro. Specs:

15" MacBook Pro
2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB Ram
Antiglare Standard res screen (1440x900)

She brought it to a repair shop where they took it apart, cleaned, and let the internals dry. After a week, she brought it to me, who powered it up and it worked!! Here's the problem: the screen works but doesn't work. The repair place replaced the LVDS cable, but that didn't do anything. Stuff shows up on the screen when I shine a light up to it, so is it possible that the liquid shorted out the backlight or something? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Yup, the backlight circuit isn't working... check ifixit.com for parts. You're probably looking for a power supply system.

Bring it back to the repair place and ask them what exactly did they fix for the money you paid, because clearly it isn't fixed.
