Eeek! I accidentally spilled Coke on my macbook pro. It wasnt the entire can, just a splash. Luckily, I was prepared and had a Keyboard cover on it which held off most of the spill. But Im worried about my speakers and trackpad. They seem to be working but is this considered "Water Damaged" by Apple?

Should be fine if alot didnt get in, I would still let it dry and take the back cover off to see if you see anything on the logicboard but I wouldnt bring it with you to the airport anymore since the drug sniffing dogs are everywhere nowadays.:D

But How much liquid is needed to be spilled will apple consider it as being water damaged? I dont believe that they would call it water damage if a 'trinkle' of a drop of water actually entered in the keyboard.

That depends on how far that drop came before it evaporated. I don't really know where the moisture sensors are, but most likely one or three are under the keyboard. If the drop came in contact with one, you might be frelled.

Maybe MRoolge or ifixit or ... can help you locate them in your specific model.

Any damage caused by the Coke will not be covered by Apple. You might get a sympathetic CSR at an authorized dealer; but those clueless idiot genius' at the Apple store won't even consider it.

While I know it sucks that the OP spilled Coke on his Macbook, I have to commend him for having the keyboard cover on it. I wish more people with spill threads would've done this. The OP has saved himself a lot of headache, he may not see it now, but being smart and using a keyboard protector as he did will pay off. :)

You know how else you can be "smart" and save yourself a lot of headache? By not having coke or other beverages in the vicinity of your computer in the first place! You'd think this would be common sense...

Exactly. I don't see how this is so hard. Just don't drink anything near your notebook and problem solved.

Desktops are different. A destroyed desktop keyboard can be replaced for as little as like 10 bucks.

+1

Time and time again do we see 'spillage' threads on these forums. Do people ever learn? Its drink around your MBP at your own risk and best practices can dramatically reduce these risks and accidents. Is it that difficult?

Credit to the OP for pre-empting situations like these though and limiting the damage.

This +100, it's just common sense. If you spill liquid on your laptop you have no one to blame but yourself. Apple or any other manufacturer can't be expected to cover this sort of thing.

Don't mean to sound harsh but it's just obvious.

Yeah! Which makes me wonder, how come people who have to HAVE a drink by them while they're on any kind of laptop, macbook, or keyboard, don't simply have a lid on something, if you HAVE to have something to drink while you are sitting there doing whatever, why can't you spend another few minutes looking for a lid that can close up when not being drank out of. We have two of these tumblers/classes (plastic, BTW).

*knock on wood*

I've yet to spill anything on my MBP but just in case, I've also gotten a keyboard protector. Not so much for spills but just to keep the keys from getting all greasy and all from use over time. Plus I like how it makes the typing sounds more muted, instead of clack clack clack from typing really fast.
