IMHO, no color calibration is needed......but then again I am not using my 12" MacBook for extensive photo editing and retouching. The colors on the screen seem to be quite true to life, sharp and crisp. Text is easy to read, thanks to the retina screen. One thing I DID do, though, was to experiment with the contrast setting (found in Accessibility) to see what, if any difference that would make and after some tinkering I found that I like the effect on my small 12" screen.
