I've noticed that the colors/tone of my display are changing randomly from time to time. They go from a nice warm color to a very whitish/blue tone and then revert back again. This happens every now and then. I do use an external display from time to time but this issue is happening when my macbook is not connected to the external display.

I currently have the profile set to "Color LCD", not sure what the default should be or if that's the one. Any ideas/suggestions?

Do you have Night Shift enabled? Night Shift is made for adjusting the colour temperature based on the time of day, getting warmer at the end of the day to prepare you for bed.

Also, there's True Tone, which adjusts the display's colour profile based on the lighting around it, trying to match the scene its in.

If you do colour critical work; Disable both

Night shift was disabled. I don't do critical colour work but just noticed the colour has been shifting randomly. I just rebooted the machine and seems to have resolved it for now. Will keep an eye on things. Thanks.

Sure; Check True Tone as well; Ideally you shouldn't really notice True Tone, as it should match your surroundings seamlessly but you might have a keen eye. - Could also be third party apps playing with the colour settings.

I have the same glitch and it’s definitely TrueTone. Disabling it works, but that kinda defeats the purpose. My best guess at the moment is that I have a large window behind me and that creates dramatic light differences that the sensor has trouble keeping up with.

Need to test this in more lighting situations to know for sure, but do you have a strong light behind you as well when this happens?

Same issue for me. The screen suddenly switches from a blue to a yellow tone and vice versa without a smooth transition. When I turn off True Tone, the problem is gone. Hope they will fix it in Big Sur!
