The attachment is as close as I've been able to get. Has anyone else been able to find a shade of grey that makes the folders and dock completely disappear? Striving for the utmost simplicity here, and I think it would look absolutely great.

I think the problem here is that regardless of shade you choose, the OS is going to average it, blur it, and then add a white translucent overlay on it, thereby always resulting in a lighter shade than desired.

Can't you just throw that screenshot in to Photoshop, or really any software and use the eye dropper tool?

Edit: Tried that, I think since the folders and dock are "technically" transparent it will always alter the color to be different from the background, making them the same color impossible. Which I see fivedots already said. :)

Potentially you could create a template where the color behind the folders and dock were actually X% lighter than the rest of the background and hope that after the OS adjusts they end up matching. It would take some trial and error though, and you'd have to know exactly where you were going to have folders.

yeah that seems to be the most probable solution.

what makes it even more difficult is certain shades of grey will cause the folders to go lighter while others cause them to go darker, there's a threshold there and I was hoping to find that perfect sweet spot in the middle.

oh well!

Yeah, and note that I meant "X% darker". Good luck!

Take the color of your folder and then make that the color of your whole wallpaper .
