colorware- good? bad?

I know it's expensive- but how is the result in real life?
looking to get a Mac Air black with blue hinges.
But I have read that it looks like a after market paint job vs
a true original color look.

I've seen (online) many reports that it stands up to normal wear and tear but like an auto, if you drop and dent the paint does chip.
