Running Yosemite

I like to assign colours to files / folders to organise them. When I do this it currently only displays a coloured dot the the right of the file name.

I'd like it to colour the whole thing ( so a colour bar over the whole text. But I can figure out how to do this.

I know it is possible as a friend has it like this on her computer ( also Yosemite ).

cheers

Totalfinder app can restore the color in the text portion, but they are stopping OS support after Yosemite (no El Capitan support).
