Hi, I am not sure how this can be done. and I am not sure if RAID provide a solution to this.

I have two identical 500G SATA to USB HD. I would like to find a way to make them appear to be a 1T HD in Mountain Lion. I know Disk Util has some basic functions to set them up as RAID, but , it doesn't seem to be the right solution. All I want is for the two drivers appear to be one and back up my data. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

What you're looking for is caller RAID 0, but it is a bad idea. Combining 2 drives in to one volume means that if one drive fails, you will lose all the data on both drives. It's a bad idea for a working drive and an even worse idea for a backup.

I agree with what poster #2 wrote.

I you don't specifically have a reason why you need RAID, it's best to stay away from it (as an end user). Can give you a lot of trouble, if one of the RAID'ed drives fails...
