My ultimate goal is to make an iPhoto slide show and coordinate the photos to a montage of songs. However, iPhoto will only let me choose one song per slideshow. Therefore, I need to take 3-5 songs, make clips of each song (since each song is over 5 minutes, but I only want to select portions of each song) and then splice them together and save as one "song" to accompany my iPhoto slideshow.

Any suggestions?

Thank you

i believe this can be done using Quicktime Pro. the instructions for doing this with video were (within the last two months) posted on the Macworld website. the audio steps are similar - check that site.

That's an easy task with GarageBand, as mad jew suggested. If you don't have it, there's a workaround with iTunes:

[…], iPhoto will only let me choose one song per slideshow.

You can also choose a playlist in iPhoto. So all you have to create is a playlist with the songs you want. If you only need a part of the song, use CMD-i to set the start and stop time (see picture below). And I strongly recommend to activate "crossfade".

Let us know if it works.
