Combining two macs into new machine

I'm sure this has been discussed on here before but forgive me. I am in the process of buying a new MBP and want to transfer my wife's old MacBook and my old Macs information to the new machine under two different profiles. Is this something that can be done easily? I mainly want to transfer the photos, music and documents from both old macs to the new MPB. Do I need some sort of software or cables? Can someone please breakdown the steps needed to complete these transfers or provide me a link with instructions. I am very new to this and have never really done anything like this before. Easily able to be done, as Migration Assistant and Setup Assistant can be run for given users. As long as you have what you need on another running Mac, a PC with Windows XP w/SP 2, or a Time Machine Backup, you can easily do what you are wanting to do.
