I have an imac g5 with superdrive that was four years old that died. they told us it needed a new motherboard. so we opted to find a new computer instead. on ebay we found my same computer never been used but it has a combo drive instead of superdrive. The new computer works great and only cost me $300. Is it possible to simply remove the combo drive and replace it with the superdrive from my dead computer?

Just replace the drive, then check About This Mac in the Apple menu, top left. The specs and capabilities will show up there.

I've done drive swaps on a few Macs in my time, and only have had problems with new off the shelf brands like LC that weren't stated to be Mac compatible.
