Comcast has relaunched its Xfinity TV Player app as Xfinity TV Go for iOS devices, allowing subscribers to now stream TV shows and movies from the service's premium channels on both the iPhone and iPad. The app also allows users to download TV shows and movies to their devices for offline viewing, and also includes parental control options. Currently, streaming and downloading of video is only supported in the United States.

XFINITY subscribers can watch thousands of XFINITY On Demand(TM) TV shows and movies anytime, anywhere. (formerly XFINITY(TM) TV Player app)

o NEW - Watch your favorite sports, news and kids networks live.
o Stream TV shows and movies from premium channels like HBO, Starz, Showtime, Cinemax and cable channels like TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, A&E, AMC, WETV, Food Network and HGTV
o Download TV shows and movies from Showtime, Streampix, Starz, Encore and MoviePlex and watch them when you're offline.
o Set parental controls for privacy and peace of mind.
Previously, the Xfinity TV Player app only allowed for streaming of on demand movies and TV shows for viewing, as Comcast originally rolled out streaming video to iPod and iPhone in 2011. The company also rolled out its "AnyPlay" live TV streaming for iPad in January 2012, and notably dropped its 250GB data cap in favor of "improved data management" this past March.

Xfinity TV Go is available as a free app for the iPhone and iPad and can be downloaded through the App Store. [Direct Link]

I rag on Comcast as much as anyone else, but this is a really nice app that lets me watch live tv on my terms.

It's certain channels. Like CNN, ESPN, FOX News, MSNBC, etc.

Sucks, I wanted to stream channels like NFL Redzone, and local channels. :(

I usually stream ESPN live but I already have the WatchESPN app.

I hope they add more channels.

I hope they add it to the Apple TV. It would be nice to ditch cable boxes & use an Apple TV as a box. Having two remotes would be difficult but saving money on boxes would overide it.

I hope they don't. I like content creators having apps. Companies like comcast provide NOTHING but headaches and make it more difficult for consumers to get content from creators and for creators to get paid by consumers.

Streaming over cellular is only available over Verizon. Come on Comcast...what a terrible decision! Not everyone has/wants Verizon.

Not only that they are horrible in customer service, they also rip us off for the price.
Why are we still putting up with them? Why can't apple TV offer something like that so that we can ditch cable completely?!

Does this mean we no longer need the HBO GO and SHOWTIME ANYTIME apps if we have this one app?

Does the Comcast version have every season of every show a la HBO GO?

I was about to say how awesome this was...but see only good for Verizon. sucks.

I have switched from Comcast to Verizon Fios (have ATT for mobile) Comcast sucked feature wise in my area...the next county had the goods but not my county ...they'd always say "next year" but that never happened.

I think if an app is mobile carrier specific like this the mobile carrier should pay for the data usage.

Comcast's Xbox 360 app was touted as not counting toward data caps, if I recall correctly. Would be nice to see something like that here.

Until they open this up to every channel in their lineup, this is not a big deal.

Nice concept. But every one of the live channels is one I don't watch. I can get news anytime, anywhere, and stream it from almost every major news site. Sports on 25 channels? Meh.

National Geographic channel has become just pandering docu-porn. Disney? I'm not 14 anymore.

Call me when you give me all of the channels, including my locals.

Useless with the wifi only restriction.

It's my freakin cell data, let me choose to use it if I wish.

There is no option for cellular streaming.

Comcast does not provide cell service, so that's not even an option.

Apparently streaming over mobile is Verizon only. And Comcast does provide internet service, which until fairly recently had a strict 250gb cap. The Xbox app bypassed this.

I've got this app but for Dish Network. I love it and highly encourage everyone to download it that this is relevant for.

Comcast version usually only has the last 5-6 episodes or only the current season to-date. I find it very similar to what networks offer on their own websites.

Yes, agreed. I wish each channel would develop an apple tv app, but will take what I can get for now.

I just hope apple allows more stuff like this on the apple tv.

Comcast is not friendly to longtime customers. I pay $74/month for internet (up to 25mps). I don't watch TV.

Good thing I found this since I'm switching from FiOS to Xfinity tomorrow. I will no doubt download this.

Data streaming "is" on at&t

Why does everyone keep saying that cellular streaming is only on Verizon, I have been streaming on at&t since the app launched. I know this because the app is a data hog and there are no stream quality settings. I watched 1 episode and half of a second episode of Brooklyn 9-9 and the app used 1.6GB of data! That is absurd. I have a 4GB mobile share plan on at&t, and at this rate I can only view 3 show episodes a month, WTF!
