Comcast screwing me, I need to buy a cable modem

Hello all,

Comcast is raising their cable modem rental rates from 3/month to 5/month. So, its finally time to buy a cable modem. Not really sure where to start with this. It seems that the Motorola SURFboard SB5101 is a reliable modem for 60 bucks on amazon. However, its four years old. I'm looking for cheap, reliable, compatible with comcast and decent speeds - but then again who isn't looking for all of that...

@ $5 a month, $60 would take a year to pay off?

have you tried calling Comcast and asking for them to lower it back to $3?

I think the rental rate is blackmail myself, but theres no real savings... sucks.
