A movie version of the hit Broadway musical "Come From Away" is set to debut on Apple TV+ on Friday, September 10, Apple said today.

"Come From Away" tells the story of several thousand people who have been stranded in Gander, Newfoundland after flights into the United States were grounded after the attacks that took place on September 11, 2001.
"Come From Away" tells the story of 7,000 people stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland after all flights into the US are grounded on September 11, 2001. As the people of Newfoundland graciously welcome the "come from aways" into their community in the aftermath, the passengers and locals alike process what's happened while finding love, laughter and new hope in the unlikely and lasting bonds that they forge.
Directed by Christopher Ashley, who directed the original Broadway production, "Come From Away" has an ensemble cast led by members of the Broadway show.

Apple says the live performance of "Come From Away" was filmed in May at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater in New York City for an audience of 9/11 survivors and front-line workers.

If they give another free year with a new iPhone, this might be the first thing we watch on Apple TV after having the last freebie go by without watching anything. I like the filmed live format like with this and Hamilton on D+ over an actual movie format like In The Heights, which was good, but still not as good as the live show.

As a longtime musical performer and aficionado, "Come From Away" is easily one of the best things I have ever seen on a stage. Happy to see Apple TV+ picking this up, and greatly looking forward to seeing this!

And if you ever get a chance to experience it live in person, do it. It's an incredibly moving piece of theatre.

If it's the Broadway show, recorded in a theater, then it's not really a movie, is it? It's not like the Hollywood versions of "South Pacific", or "Guys and Dolls".

They just give 3 months for new users now. The 1 year with new device was going to go away at some point.

I saw it during a 2-day work trip to NJ, we took a trip into NYC our last evening and one of group insisted on seeing THIS play and we were "lucky" to get last minute tickets though nobody wanted to go. I ended up very pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed it!

Unfortunately my strongest memory though is the seats in the theater being worse than the middle seat on a plane and feeling very claustrophobic, uncomfortably squeezed between two people I hardly knew, sweating after the group decided it would be 'fun' to walk from Union Square to Hells Kitchen for dinner and then to the theater in business clothes, in the middle of summer. I love any chance to go to New York though, so I can't complain.

I was able to see this three times in San Francisco. It is remarkable I hope that its filmed as good as Hamilton was.

We only got to see Hamilton nine time in the theatre at san Francisco as the last time covid hit :(

Can we all just agree that musicals are the stupidest thing ever and should be banned? Who goes around singing and dancing about what they are doing and what's going on?

I don't know about that. One of my favorite NYC musicals was Avenue Q. It was with actors with muppets singing dirty raunchy songs while jumping around and holding pitch. It's all very impressive and very funny.

I hate most musicals and LOVED this! Hope the film lives up to the live show. And IMHO Apple TV+ well worth it for the very high-quality of the shows, particularly For All Mankind and Long Way Up, Gets better all the time.

I have had the opportunity to get some of the real life people the characters are based on, and they are the salt of the earth. The musical hits all the right notes and they treat the horror of 9/11 and the loss of life with a gut punch climax that has made grown men cry besides myself. It's moving and inspiring and it makes you want to travel to Newfoundland to thank the residents for their kindness and compassion shown to their temporary visitors.

It's a matter of taste, and this gives you the golden opportunity to turn the channel and find something else to do instead of throwing cold water on someone's experience.

It's really good. It's very emotional; I was in tears at parts of it. I think it was better than Dear Evan Hansen which won best musical that year. I go see almost every musical on broadway every year until it shut down.
It has the right balance. Dear Evan Hansen's win was very political because of Ben Platt, who looks like hell in the movie version coming out this Winter in time for ... guess what? Awards season. I've talked with the real Captain Bass. She's such an amazing lady.
