iPhone 15 Pro Coming from an IPHONE 8 IOS16 device

I am coming from an IPHONE 8 IOS 16 device and will get a new IPhone 15 pro which will come with IOS 17.

Can I use the „Transfer directly from IPhone“ option even if my IPhone 8 has a lower IOS version?

Or an iCloud backup from my IOS16 device to setup my new IOS 17 device?

Yes, it's only the opposite direction that things don't work. I.e., you're trying to restore from an iOS 16 backup to an iOS 15 device.
