Command+Delete not working on ext. Apple keyboard

Mac newbie (obviously).

I am trying to sort photos in Preview. I can scroll through pics with my new Apple keyboard but I cannot delete. I get a tone and a flash.

I know there are two delete keys. I have tried both. I assume the one with the x is the proper one.

In other words, the key with the X will not work.
