command + tab while gaming ?

Maybe this looks like a strange question....
You know, in games like Diablo II you can not save it but only pause the game pressing esc. I wonder if there's a way to switch to an other mac application while leaving the game paused, something like command + tab (which doesn't work).

Problem solved! I just discovered that I can command + m and put D2 in windowed mode and hide it.
