TLDR version: I want to keep my unlimited Verizon data, so i have to get a 4g phone before they change plans. After holding a Nokia Lumio 900's 4.7" screen in hand I realized i HATE big screens on phones (even though i'm an avid gamer) and am looking forward to getting a fully subsidized HTC Incredible 4g 4.0" screen phone soon
And if android still sucks at updates and my phone resets like my wife's droid 2 global, i'll switch back to the new iphone in Oct and keep unlimited!
Blog version: Background: I started with android in 2008 on the Tmobile G1 and stayed there until Spring 2011 with various android phones. Well I switched to Verizon in the fall of 2010 but had android with them. I loved android but not getting updates and random reboots on my phone really killed my love for it. So when the iphone came out in early 2011 i jumped on it. Was sad to lose some screen real estate but what really bugged me was the BORING grid of icons.
Actually that boredom was offset by the fact my iphone 4 (and now my 4s) NEVER, and i mean NEVER, rebooted. It always got the latest update instantly and i've never had (and most likely never will have) a more stable phone. So as i was doing regular factory resets on my wife's Droid 2 Global and even having to send it back to Verizon for repair (not for dropping it, just because it literally stopped working), i was VERY comforted in my choice of iOS. Plus, i'm a big gamer and i couldn't deny the game selection and quality on iOS was WAY better (at least when i switched in early 2011).
Ok, first part of blog over, second part here: I have decided to leave iOS now for one simple reason: Verizon cancelling unlimited. And if you look up their official statement if you are on an unlimited 3g OR LTE contract BEFORE they change over to the shared family data plans you can KEEP your unlimited as long as you buy phones off contract.
So, an iphone users ONLY option to keep unlimited data on verizon is to jump on a 4g android phone now and if they want to STAY on iOS then buy the new iPhone in October for $700-$900 outright. The people that do that will have unlimited "new" iphones and everyone else who tries to upgrade the normal way with a subsidy will lose it.
So i was killing time Saturday and we walked into a Microsoft store because i wanted to finally see the Nokia Lumia 900 WP7 phone. The construction of it has a cool feel but i HATED the 4.7" screen. I realized that i really, really like a smaller screen. I'm not saying 3.5" is perfect, i'm just saying i hated how the 4.7" felt in hand (like a pancake!)
Conclusion: When the HTC Incredible 4g comes out i'm buying it fully subsidized to keep my unlimited data on Verizon. It is an android with the fastest dual core processor on the market and nice specs all around but it's a 4.0" screen instead of the 4.8" of the Galaxy S3.
