So I have a set of BD discs that will no longer allow me to mount/load on my MP51.

Now, I have ripped them before on this exact hardware and have them on an HD for backup, but I wanted to rip them again and combine some of the files instead of having to load each title individually when watching. I was considering making each file with 1 whole season.

Now, trying to rip again, and some of the BD's won't load/mount anymore at all. I've tried in 10.14.x and 10.15.x, as well as Win10, and Linux. So I know it's a hardware or Disc issue. Since most of the Discs load, play, and rip normally, I can only infer that some of the BD's themselves have when bad.

Has anyone else here experienced anything like this?

The metal layer in commercial consumer discs isn't 100% archival. This is not unique for Blu-ray media, it is the same problem with DVDs, audio CDs, etc.

I have a handful of each that have gone bad. You don't know which ones will last and which ones won't so it is wise to copy/duplicate at some point sooner rather than later.

If you find that too onerous, just be aware than you may need to replace media in the future (and that some titles may no longer be available).
