My daughter has a spring 2015 rMBP with the 128GB SSD. I've seen things like this that supposedly allow you to seamlessly add storage.

Anyone here have any experience with these or similar items? Any thing to like or dislike about them?

Thanks in advance,
Chris

They have been around for years and there are a fair few threads on here about them, just do a search.

The general consensus is they are fine for a bit of media storage but too slow for much else and can have issues on sleeping and waking, shutting down etc.

I have same MBP
I use this for the media files and archives:

With SanDisk Ultra microSDXC 128 GB

Nothing to dislike
If deep sleep is an issue look at:

But I don't bother with this.

AGREED. Nothing replaces the actual SSD space, 128gb + 128gb usb flash or sd, won't be as good as the actual 256gb ssd - fact

i store a lot of files (movies, some music) on a 128GB micro SD card (with one of those nifty cards). never had any issues. as an additional storage idea, it's great, AND it's always there when u need it...
