I am in a period where I’m traveling quite a bit with a small group of people. We find ourselves in circumstances and properties where our hosts have hired somebody to do the WiFi and sometimes it’s decent and sometimes it’s god awful. I am curious to know if there is a lightweight relatively compact product you’d all recommend if i just wanted to plug in my own AP to a LAN port on the hosts router and never have to even screw with their cheap WiFi implantation/chipset. I was thinking a last gen Apple Airport Express might do but then thought to ask you guys what you’d use. Does not have to be a router, just an AP.

So what you are saying is you want a travel router for hotel visits? Or are you talking a Wi-Fi router is middle of nowhere?
more like AirBNBs where they have wifi but told somebody install it and spare every expense just make it work. I am thinking of the Ubiquity Flex HD.

The Flex HD would work great, but I would save the money and get a UAP-AC-LITE. They're still fairly small and less than half the cost, while still performing well.
