Looking to buy some speakers and have a budget of $60/£40.

These will not be for an audiophile (as you can no doubt guess, judging by the budget!) - they just need something cheap and cheerful that will be an improvement on their current somewhat tinny Mac Mini inbuilt speaker.

Also need to be as compact as possible.

I know most of you will have impeccable audio taste and bigger budgets, but if you can recommend anything half (or even a quarter ;) )-decent for this price, I'd appreciate it. :)

Try these JBL Duet speakers. Have two pair, using them with both an iMac and a Macbook, as well as with an iPod when necessary. Plugs right into the headphone port of anything. And great sound quality for that price point. Read the reviews for yourself - people are saying these are unmatched for the price.
