I was looking for a 2012 Mac Mini i7. I noticed second hand prices had shot up a lot (likely due to the fact that it outperforms the 2014) in some ways. The price was actually high enough that it was in the range of 2 - 4 year old Macbook Pro retina's.

I was wondering performance wise, how much faster a 2012 i7 Mini is compared to Macbook pro retina. Within the Price range of the Mac Mini, I've managed to find i5 macbook pro retina's from 2012-2014 with i5's.

For the sake of comparison, assume all other specs are equal (eg. same ram, ssd, etc). Would be used for mostly iOS dev - gaming is completely irrelevent.
