I am considering getting the new MacBook Air that runs OS Mojave.

My current laptop runs Mac OS Sierra (10.12.6) and my external HDD is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).

I know little about AFPS, the new file system used with Mojave.

Should I expect any compatibility issues between my current files on the computer/external and if I get the new machine?

Any special care I should take while transferring my files? I was planning to use Air Drop, or just a simple drag-drop from my external HDD.

Thanks!

If your external drive is a backup and is a bootable clone - you can use migration assistant to bring all the data and applications, etc onto the new MacBook from the clone on the external drive.

You can also use migration assistant (MA) to bring the info directly from the current Sierra install - probably the best most current info? (Can be done over the air or with target disk mode)

It is important to use migration assistant before you set up the mac with an account or configure the users - MA should be done first.

there should be no issues for the Mojave install / APFS reading the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) drive
