I have an Apple TV 4K 2017 model and I use it with my Samsung 1K TV in my room upstairs. Downstairs in the hall I have a 65" LG 2020 model Nanocell TV which has also 4K and HDR 10 Pro. This TV has also WebOS operating system and it has PLex, Apple TV, YouTube as its apps. I am thinking of buying the new 128 GB Version of the Apple TV with latest features. My LG TV supports HDMI 2.0. I would like to know if my LG TV will be compatible with the new Apple TV and will it be beneficial to me in some ways. Or should I connect my older 2017 model Apple TV to my 4k LG TV and perhaps get a used 2015 1 K Apple TV for my upstairs 1K Samsung TV.

If your TV has a HDMI port, it's compatible. I'm not sure this is the information you were looking for.

Regarding the possible benefits, the Apple TV brings you a more familiar UI and there are some apps or features that you will not find on your smart TV. Apple Fitness+, or Arcade, the possibility to control certain HomeKit accessories, text input through the iPhone (the best feature IMO), HomePod audio output support, Siri support, etc. Nothing ground-breaking, but it has value to some people. The Apple TV app on your smart TV is limited to Apple TV+ Originals.

Now it's up to you if you want to buy a new TV box or buy a used one. Of course, you'll need a 2017 Apple TV for anything 4K, but there is not a huge difference in features support between the 2017, 2021 and 2022 generations. But I would stay away from the 2015 gen, it's quite old, its OS might be unsupported by Apple in the near future, and the storage options are quite limited. I would consider a used 4K model over the HD gen.

Thanks for your reply. I can see that it makes sense to buy the new Apple TV since I am already in some way in the Apple ecosystem.

We have a 43" LED LG TV with a 4K Apple TV. What I like is the eARC thing so I can use the Apple TV to turn the TV on and off with the Apple Remote. The speed of the Apple TV is vastly faster than webOS.
