So there was the old jokes about how dumb/inept many film villains and adversaries are, you know how the evil genius sets an elaborate trap for the hero that is too clever and everyone jokes how poor shots Imperial Stormtroopers are. Well who are your picks for competent villians?

First choice is from 1980s "Flash Gordon" and whoever the commander of the Ajax that fought against Flash and the Hawkmen including Brian Blessed.

The commander is calm and not some cookie cutter eveil war leader. The troops shoot well (except against the main characters who are protected by plot armour of course). Absolute KILLER soundtrack by Queen.

Second up: Imperial General Maximilian Veers who led the assault on the Rebel base on Hoth.

Not only is he cool and assured when dealing with Darth Vader, but never arrogant unlike the unlucky officer in this clip:

Of course who can forget this attack:

I'd like to see your picks!

John Doe from Se7en. He out manuveured the hero at every turn and, IMO, won in the end. He turned the hero, David Mills, into a murderer and the 7th deadly sin, Wrath.
Excellent, yes he did win in the end...brutal and disturbing film.

I'd say the Predator in the original film is a well done bad guy. It's mostly the predator does so well due to skill, abilities and technological superiority. Only losing because it decided Dutch was a worthy prey. Deserving a fight without all the tech cheats.

Wasn't he defeated by mud though?
