Hello people,
I have an iphone 3g 16GB for like 7 months now. I bought it from Vodafone the carrier which sells the iPhone here (Greece,Europe).
Ok I've had a problem, where I had to be on the "open" to be able to speak, for example if I was inside my room people had trouble hearing me, but when I went outside, they could hear me just fine (just 4m away). Reception problem? I don't know I can talk with any other phone from my room 3G or not.
Anyway after 4 months a scratch like this one (https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/548961/) appeared on my phone. So I finally decided to take it to Vodafone for a replacement. They had to keep it there for 10 days so they can check it. The salesmen there told me that the scratch won't be fixed because they only change the "motherboard" not the whole device, even though they state on their website (I can link if you wish) that they only exchange the devices they don't touch them, after getting tired of arguing with them I stopped talking and gave them the phone. They send the devices to another company who is in charge of service. Well after 6 days they told me that apparently the phone is water damaged - of course I've never even had it close to water - they told me it might be from changes of temperature (I couldn't stop laughing of course..). So this other company asks for 190 to replace my phone (they never repair it, they only exchange it no matter what). I don't accept that offer and contact vodafone, they said they are willing to pay half the bill. I did accept the offer, they told me in 4-5 days I will have the phone.
I called the store 5 days after that and they "connect" me with the iPhone specialist, who informs me I never accepted the exchange of my iPhone! After arguing and telling him to send it for exchange, I call the store again after 10 minutes and ask for the iphone specialist again... where they insisted there is no such thing...
To sum up :
- Vodafone's employees are completely uneducated regarding the iPhone, I get a different answer every time I talk to one of them.
- The service SUCKS. You never get to see anyone from the service team as they are independent of vodafone and they keep telling everyone that their iPhone is water damaged! I know someone who took it to vodafone 5 days after purchase and they told him it was water damaged... The thing is there is no way we can check if it really is water damaged, because we never get to see the phone once we give it to them, I asked for photos of the device which prove the problem but they denied that and said I should talk to the service (this so called service doesn't even have a store...)
- It's been close to a month now and I still am without my phone because not only they ask me to pay for something I didn't break, they are brain damaged.
Do you think it's worth contacting apple about this mess (it's not just me with problems), I don't expect Apple to give my money back, but I want to inform them about the mess so they can know how their customers see them here and maybe try to improve things (and it's a shame because in other countries such as the US Apple's support seems great)
