I bought a mid-2007 iMac on January 1, 2008. I've loved it and have never had a single problem with it. It was my introduction to Mac when I switched from Micro$oft.

Now, it runs very slowly, taking 20 seconds or so to go from page to page. I can't watch streaming videos in Firefox anymore because the video freezes for a few seconds about twice a minute. I've tried a complete re-install of Firefox to fix this but it didn't work.

I'm saving for a new iMac but I still need to get by with this one until I've saved enough. I want to do a complete erase and reinstall of my mid-2007 iMac. I did this several years ago but, since then, I've upgraded my OS. I had to buy one (Mountain Lion, I think) before I could get the higher upgrades for free.

#1. Do you think a complete reinstall (sorry, I'm not good with the lingo) would help speed up my iMac? (I'm still doing it even if it doesn't speed it up, but I'm wondering.)

#2. Once I do the complete reinstall, how do I upgrade from Snow Leopard (I think that was the original OS) to the most current OS without having to buy any inbetween OS's?

#3. Is there a good, detailed, step-by-step site where I could print out the instructions on how to do the erase and reinstall?

Warnings? Tips? Advice? Recommendations? Anything helpful would be greatly appreciated, folks.
