FAYT-Find as you type.

is a function in firefox that allow you to just start typing to invoke in-page search, without pressing any key, or clicking any button,

take 5 seconds think about that.

...
...

okay, now, more details and improvements on the default function:

1. this function need to be enabled in preference->advanced->general->search text when I start typing

2. the quickfind bar will be invoked once this function is enable and you start typing.

3. there are two weakness of the quickfind bar since firefox 2.0,
A. quickfind bar does not have buttons for up/next/highlight, which severely limit the usefulness of FAYT
B. quickfind bar disappear very shortly
4. Now, solutions for problems in #3.
A. addon FAYT. give you back full feature quickfind bar as you see in firefox 1.x
B. goto about:config and change value of entry accessibility.typeaheadfind.timeout, unit is in ms, increase it to 10000 or larger.
5. You can press F3 to jump to "next" search research.

6. The search term is stored until your next search/FAYT even when the quickfind is gone. Which means, you can do FAYT in one tab for a term, then you can simply switch to any other tab, or even open a new tab with a new page, and just press F3 to keep searching the term you previously searched, without invoking search bar, making any input, or clicking any buttons.
Enjoy simple solution, finding a needle in an ocean just made so much easier.
