Complete iPhone Restore?

Lately I've been having issues with my 4S and freezing up.
When I tried to read up on in this, it was suggested that I reset
my phone (top and home buttons) and that might do the trick.

Now, if that didn't do the trick, then I would have to restore
to new condition. It said not to restore from a backup as the
backup might have the bug causing the phone to freeze.

If you do restore to new condition, how do you go about
saving all your contacts?

back them up to icloud. when you sign back into your apple ID it should restore them.
