so i was on my iphone in class, and i got an error message saying to connect it to itunes to recover it, i connect it to itunes and it says i need to put in my passcode, however, since it crashed all its doing is showing the cable and the itunes logo, it also has the "i" with the circle around it and when i touch it it gives me a screen that says...

now i can't get it on itunes to recover it, and i dont know what to do, please help me.
EDIT: i've tried popping my sim out. as well as holding the top button and center button to hard reset and neither helps.
EDIT2: i'm trying DFU mode, i hope this works... or am i completely screwed?
EDIT3: DFU mode failed... said an unkown error occured... awesome
