Complications remain on when “show complications” is off - always on display setting

I really don’t need any complications to remain lit when my wrist is down on the always on display. I toggled off the button for “show complication data” but a few still remain lit like messages, battery and calculator. Is it a glitch or do these always stay on regardless? Anyone else notice this too? I’m using an Ultra 2 with 10.1. Thanks.

Those stay on. Personal data gets hidden with that setting.
