I'm new to Apple watch, been a Apple convert for about 18 months now. Moved over after many years of Android. New system, new devices and new language. I've got IPP 12.9 2nd Gen, Apple pencil, iPhone 7 Plus, Air Pods and last week I was given the gift of a Apple Watch Series 3, 40mm with sport strap. Really enjoying the watch but I have one question. The symbols on the edges of the face (message, mail, heart rate etc....) are called complications. Why???? Where did that name come from? It sounds so counterintuitive. It's not a problem, I'm just curious that out of the dozens of other names that could have been used, why complications?

Speaking of complications, will the third party complications need to be specially redesigned to fit the new face that allows 8? Or will they just work out of the box?
